Rebuilding Communities
GOSR-NYC Build-it-Back Program

The NYC Build-It-Back program, managed by the Mayor’s Office of Housing Recovery (HRO), provided Federal Community Development Block Grant Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR) funding to Sandy-impacted homeowners across the five boroughs for permanent repairs and resilient measures, including home elevations or full reconstruction with elevation.
As a part of the program Studio 88 and its executives assessed 30 homes across Brooklyn and developed construction documents for rehabilitation work, home  elevations, or full reconstruction. Studio 88 solved critical issues including compliance with local and federal regulations, and the technical challenges of elevating and rebuilding properties located on small lots with minimal access and correcting nonconforming conditions. Studio 88 completed design and construction administration for eight homes which were elevated above the FEMA design flood elevation and six homes which required full reconstruction.
